The 1965 draft had a major league and AAA section (rounds 1-3), a AA section (4-7) and A-ball sections (8+). Each team had one pick in rounds 1-7 (MLB, AAA, and AA picks). Starting with the 8th round teams received a pick for each A-ball team in their system in the reverse order of the affiliate finishes. Franchises that shared affiliates, alternated the picks round-by-round. This means that a franchise will have multiple picks in a "round". For presentation reasons here, we have re-labeled the rounds to be the number of the selection made by this franchise. This means that the Twins' 10th round pick could come after the Mets' 12th round pick.
Morrison was assigned to Tampa A late in 1986 and later that year, moved to Savanah AA in the Florida State Southern League. He batted .419 and had a team leading 21 doubles. In 1987 after hitting .374, Morrison was moved up to Louisville KY, where he started in all games while playing 3rd base for the Redbirds. He hit .359 with 12 doubles, 1 triple, and 12 homers before being injured while trying to score a game winning run against the Nashville Sounds in Nashville. Morrison ended the year hitting .319 which was still good enough for the third highest on the Redbird's team.
Morrison had two stints in St. Louis with the Cardinals starting his professional debut with a pinch hit double in the national league playoffs against Danny Cox in Philadelphia. He had a .321 average for the Cardinals, which was tops among all infielders that played in over 20 games. He ended his career with the rare feat of hitting over .300 in all seasons while with the Cardinal Organization at all levels.
